Do you really need a degree?

Do you really need a degree?

Do you sometimes wonder whether college is worth for the time and effort?

You've probably spent a number of years getting a qualification. Only for most of the information to no longer be relevant to your job. Plus, you've probably got a significant amount of student debt to go along with it.

You might be thinking: "Was it really worth the time and expense?" And, "If I'm going to change careers, do I really need a formal qualification to retrain?"

>> OUR GUEST THIS EPISODE:

Charlie Parker, freelance director.

He learnt more in a week of placement than he did in three years of university. He believes formal education is outdated and in the YouTube generation you don't need a degree to learn a new skill.

>> WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

  1. Why you've got to go downhill, before you go uphill.
  2. How putting in the hard work pays off.
  3. Why to expect rejection (it's not the end of the journey, it's part of it).

>> TAKE HOME CHALLENGE: EMOTIONS JOURNAL

Keep a small journal and at the end of every day, write down three emotions that came up during the day and the circumstances they came up in. Also, write down one thing you are grateful for. Identifying specific emotions helps identify exactly what it is you enjoy about your job and your day, and what specific moments are making you unhappy. Writing down something you're grateful for has been shown to improve wellbeing and help shift your mentality to a positive mindset.
